It is imperative on our part as scientists to carefully consider their ways and in conducting our researches identify appropriate measures that can be inculcated in building generally acceptable technologies easy for adoption at the grass roots level because their knowledge had been incorporated.

By: Betty Annan, PhDAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4636610798761076656.post-50708086216681123002012-06-04T11:52:34.924+00:002012-06-04T11:52:34.924+00:00These are great thoughts, Douglas. I've been doing a lot of thinking about IEK, TK, and local knowledge lately and I am starting to believe that the REAL reason it is not employed is that it takes power away from the organizations that benefit from aid. For example, if local people do a perfectly good job at maintaining a sustainable agro-ecosystem, how is the UNDP or Greenpeace going to be able to demand funding for "initiatives?" The government of Ghana obviously wouldn't want the solutions to be on the local level, because then they wouldn't receive aid from the EU, China, or the US to pay for large infrastructural initiatives or increased agricultural "productivity." People would be upset because there are careers, jobs, and economic growth on the line when the most obvious solution is to just let people continue to do things the way they have been doing them for thousands of years.

Anyway, those are my thoughts.

Best,

DouglasDouglas La Rosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01766773182470861527noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4636610798761076656.post-43670544320076579662012-05-31T18:42:24.282+00:002012-05-31T18:42:24.282+00:00Sustainability and Construction,
